The 8th graders completed their Gold Foil Relief owls! This was a two week project. We first planned our compositions, paying attention to all of the positive and negative spaces on chipboard using pencil. Then Ms Kate (and Ms Susan) outlined their drawings using glue to create "the relief" making the drawing higher than the chipboard. This is a messy process which is why the students didn't do this part. Today they saw their drawings with the harden glue. We then used glue sticks and gold tin foil that wrapped the chip board. The students used their fingers to spread out the foil and took their time to going around the glue to make sure that it comes through. We then used dull pencils and drew more detail on the foil to show more texture on the owls, tree and leaves! You can do an additional step at home using black shoes polish to make it looked like aged metal. (This could get messy which is why we didn't do it in school). Rub over the whole thing with black shoe polish, wait a few seconds, and wipe off. (I use the kind that comes in a bottle with a sponge applicator lid.) The students loved creating this gold plated relief art!
